Steps to the Stars

 Performing Arts Classes

• History:

‘Steps to the Stars’ was founded in January 2001 by the Principal, Debbie James.

Just 6 weeks later, ‘Steps to the Stars’ celebrated it’s first professional performance ‘Showtime’ - songs, drama and choreographed dance routines.

• Aims and Objectives:

‘Steps to the Stars’ aims to provide local children the opportunity to realise their hidden potential.

Particular encouragement is given to building self confidence as well as stage and presentation skills.

‘Steps to the Stars’ provides an ideal environment for the development of personal and social skills, growth in self-esteem and confidence as well as providing a firm ground in Performing Arts technique and styles

Attitude and Effort and Creativity is rewarded as equally as talent.

‘Steps to the Stars’ offers education in the Performing Arts and in addition to training for a professional career in a class setting, enables students to experience Performances in front of ‘real’ audiences.

The children are encouraged to create their own dramatic responses to themes through improvisation and imagination.

They also choreograph their own dance routines, deciding for themselves how best they would like to present a particular piece of work.

‘Steps to the Stars’ students also develop skills and talents in leadership and team working.

• Structure:

Each class is led by the Principal with additional Master classes held throughout the term.

Classes are geared for youngsters aged 6 - 16. Students work in small mixed groups.

Class sizes are approximately 20.

• Class Hours:

‘Steps to the Stars’ classes are presently held every Friday during academic term time.

The session lasts for 2 hours from 5pm - 7pm.

The session is divided into the 3 Key areas of Singing, Drama and Dance as well as preparation / rehearsal for forthcoming Shows and Performances.

• Presentations:

‘Steps to the Stars’ is committed to providing performing opportunities to give all the students ‘real’ experience. Presentations usually take place in the class venue and are mainly for family and friends.

• Performances:

‘Steps to the Stars’ also provide the chance for students to perform professional shows for the public. These take place regularly, in local Theatres for the public as well as family and friends.

Since ‘Steps to the Stars’ began in January 2001, the students have achieved 15 performances in just 12 months!
